Who We Are
Founded in December 2021, vishuponastar.com is a brand new online store that offers fashion casual clothing and accessories featuring original artworks done by Vishakha Devi Vijayaraj. We aim at providing fashion and quality items at affordable prices. We are supported through a network of our dear friends and family who’ve been our first critics and have been highly appreciative of our works. They’ve shown their support through social media and we strive to move on with their love.
The Star
Vishuponastar.com is the dream project and brain child of 14 year old Vishakha Devi who’s currently in the 9th grade at MCTM International school in Chennai. From the moment Vishakha realised that her artworks could gain live form through physical products like everyday furnishings and apparel, she set to get her creativity on new avatars. She was bent on building her own small business showcasing her digital and traditional artworks and patterns. She has thus taken her first tiny step into entrepreneurship and her dream of letting the world to experience the magic of her creativity takes flight.
In Her Words
Vishuponastar is not only my story but my family’s as well. Let me take you through the journey! It all began when Covid was ravaging through India rendering our vacay plans moot. The first 21-day lockdown passed as hopefulness lingered about and we believed wholeheartedly that the virus would just disappear.
The 3 weeks of a monotonous routine then began to get to our heads. That was when I desperately picked up a whole bunch of hobbies like knitting, gaming, painting, reading, writing and the list went on and on. But one hobby that I pursued consistently was art. I enjoyed every minute of the art classes in online school and became all the more encouraged after I completed my very first art challenge back in April 2021. My mom had posted my works consistently on her Facebook page and all the comments truly skyrocketed my passion. And when October came, I knew I had to participate in the infamous INKTOBER challenge. Armed with Micron pens and the amazing support from mommy dearest, we opened up an Instagram account and set out on our quest to complete Inktober2021. And honestly, Inktober pushed me off the cliff I had always stood on- the cliff of what if, the cliff that kept me guessing and second-guessing myself. All the wonderful comments and the increase of followers made me want to take up another art challenge and I did. I took up PATTERNOVEMBER, switched up gears and changed my medium to digital. I designed my original patterns, and I rendered them on mockups and posted them to my Insta page every day. And it was one of those days that an opportunity came a-knocking. I got a query for the purchase of one of the mockups I’d amade. And that was it !! That was the final nudge. My parents and I decided to research more on what it took to build a website and what it took to put designs on apparel and make them available for purchase. When my dad gave me the go-ahead, I began building my website. I wanted to build it myself and add my personal touch to it and the final result is super satisfactory. Don’t you think?
